Apple sauce is unbelievably easy to make, basically apples and water, you can’t get more simple than that.
You can, by all means, add flavourings to your sauce such as a sweetener if your apples are a bit sour or some cinnamon because cinnamon and apples are a match made in heaven in my opinion!
I use this sauce in my apple muffins, but you can use it a number of recipes; cookies, pancakes or just add some granola and yoghurt to the apple sauce and breakfast is ready!
Makes 1 cup.
-4 apples, cored, peeled and diced (approx. 2 generous cups when diced)
-1/2 cup water
-optional flavourings – coconut sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon
How To Make
Place the diced apples, water and any flavourings you want to add into a medium-sized pan and bring to a simmer.
Cook until the apples have softened, adding more water during the cooking process if needed. Sometimes 1/2 cup is enough then other times I add another 1/4 cup more, it depends on the variety of apple I’m using.
Once the apples have softened and are starting to break down, blend until desired consistency – I don’t like mine completely smooth but that is a personal preference.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.
