Benefits of Lemon Water

Lemons Sliced

I’m not going to lie, it has taken me a while to get into the habit of drinking lemon water each morning before I eat or drink anything else.

I had seen plenty of articles about the many benefits of starting your day with lemon water but I am a creature of habit.  I used to have a glass of water whilst I do my morning workout, followed by a cup of tea and breakfast.

Now, however, I have been drinking warm lemon water each morning and I’m starting to notice a difference.  My skin is a lot clearer as are my eyes and it seems to help my digestion throughout the day, it also seems to awaken all my senses too and it helps keep you, ahem, regular!  Whether these are just purely coincidental I’m not sure but I’m going to continue with my new morning habit plus I quite like sitting in the quiet with my lemon water and planning my day ahead.

Some people suggest having the juice of a whole lemon in freshly boiled water, others say to have it in cold water.  Personally, I have the juice from half a lemon in luke warm water.

Lemon juice can cause erosion of tooth enamel so it is recommended that you wait at least 60 minutes after finishing your lemon water before brushing your teeth.

Here are some benefits of drinking lemon water

Aids Digestion

Lemon juice flushes out unwanted toxins from the body.  It encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid that is required for digestion.  The digestive qualities of lemon juice help to relieve indigestion symptoms and help with heartburn and bloating.

Is A Diuretic

As it increases unrination, toxins are removed from the body at a faster rate and helps keep your urinary tract healthy.

Clears Skin

The vitamin C in the lemon juice helps to decrease wrinkles and blemishes and helps rejuvenate the skin from within the body.

Boosts Your Immune System

Lemons are high in Vitamin C which is great for fighting colds

Helps Either Constipation or Diarrhea

It can help with the extremes of either constipation or diarrhea.

Balances pH Levels

Although lemons are acidic, once metabolised in the body they become more alkaline and help alkalise our blood.  This is an important factor as diseases tend to occur in bodies which are too acidic.
